The $1000 Film

What can you do with $1000?  Well, you could buy this awesome 1984 Trans Am.  Get some new kicks to take on the winter in style.  And if you need somewhere to settle in for that Star Trek marathon, there’s always this couch…

Or you could make a feature film.

Yes, that’s right.  A feature film.  The things you see at the multiplex made for budgets bigger than NASA projects.  The stuff you watch on the Sundance channel whose “low” budgets still eclipse seven figures.  Or even your next door neighbor’s cheesewad horror film that he blew ten times as much cash as you did on rent last year.

We’re going to make a feature for $1000.

And we’re going to share our entire process with everyone along the way…

We’ll cover everything – so you can discover screenwriting, directing, acting, production, equipment, and post – all from the perspective of the microbudget film.  We’ll take you behind the scenes on our set, and even share our experiences in self-distribution.   It’s a free crash course in a new world of microbudget filmmaking.

For new DIY filmmakers, we hope that the lessons we provide will enable you to make your film.

For accomplished filmmakers, we hope that this site will foster a discussion about the new trails we can blaze in the medium we love.

So why are we doing this?

We’re artists and production pros who want to change the way people think about the filmmaking process.  Rapidly evolving cinematic technology provides an opportunity for art to expand and diversify in substance, and gives truly original voices access to audience.  Unfortunately, a lot of people fail to realize that a revolution in technology should also bring on a revolution in process.  Too many of us are stuck in procedures and strategy of the studio, indie, and film school systems in place.  But this site isn’t an indictment of the current systems – it is simply an alternative.  It is a way to think, a way to learn, and a way to prove that true creative freedom can be found with minimal financial resources – and that classically-based, compelling stories can be brought to screen in fresh and unexpected ways.

So join us as we set out to make our film ONE BODY and bust the myths of both massive and microbudget filmmaking.

Follow our blog as we share our entire process with you – from conception through our final film.  Join in the discussion, and sign up to our mailing list to receive special access to our free online lessons that will show you how to make a microbudget film.
