Our Mission

We believe that the process in making a microbudget film is distinct from the traditional film model in ways that extend far beyond finances.

There aren’t any film schools that will teach you how to do microbudget.  There aren’t any screenwriting books that will tell you how to write for it.  There aren’t any formulas, tips, or tricks you’ll pick up at some Hollywood studio guru’s seminar that will help you make your movie.

In the world of microbudget film, the conventional rules, formulas, and techniques don’t always apply.  Taking what you’ll learn about traditional studio filmmaking to microbudget is kind of like learning to fly an airplane, when all you wanted to do was cruise down to the coffee shop on your bike.

There’s a lot more to making a microbudget film than figuring out how to spend less money on a piece of equipment, prop, or craft services.  Many of the independent film resources online focus on gear and technology, with very little devoted to storytelling, directing, acting, or the true craft of filmmaking.

We recognize that new digital filmmaking tools are integral to DIY filmmaking, but we also know that making films is about more than the size of your sensor.  We believe that the internet can be a powerful weapon in the fight for filmmaking independence, but only if it’s deployed in unexplored ways.  Our mission is to rethink, reshape, and reinvent the entire filmmaking process – all while keeping storytelling in mind.
